The heart of the village

In the center of the village, which grew bigger from generation to generation, there was always a small flat area available that was considered as the heart of social life. It is the public place of the village, as-saha.

This place constitutes the economic nerve of the locality and the center of activity and cohesion of the village. In this place, neighbors quarrel and make up again, gossips circulate and small or important village decisions are made. It is where young and old men meet to play cards and backgammon, smoke their water pipe watching over kids playing.
